Join us for a joint webinar, "Understanding Iowa's New Composting Rules," presented by the Iowa Recycling Association and Iowa Composting Council featuring guest speaker Theresa Steiner from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Significant revisions have recently been made to the regulations for compost facilities. Join the IACC-IRA joint webinar to find out how the new regulations will impact your compost operation. Key presentation points will include:

  • Key structural changes include moving definitions and basic permit requirements to IAC 567-100 and reorganizing Organic Materials Composting Facilities under a broader chapter for non-landfill waste management.
  • An explanation of the four-tier system, ranging from small-scale Tier 1 operations to high-volume Tier 4 facilities requiring full departmental permits and financial assurance.
  • A breakdown of Type A, B, and C feedstocks, including the distinction between low-risk vegetative waste and higher-risk materials like biosolids and industrial wastes.
  • A review of siting, design and operational standards that apply to all compost facilities.
  • Transitioning from the old rules to the new including registering a facility or transitioning from a permit to permit-by-rule.
