In partnership with the US Composting Council (USCC) and the Iowa Recycling Association (IRA), the State of Iowa now has a newly formed Chapter of the USCC to promote infrastructure building and training to address increasing amounts of organics in the landfill and encourage use of compost for healthy soils.
The Iowa Composting Council (IACC) is a non-profit organization consisting of public and private entities across the state of Iowa dedicated to promoting and advancing compost generation to utilize the organic component of Iowa's waste stream through support of infrastructure development, quality control and ethical operations, operator training, legislative and regulatory advocacy, and general public education.
To strengthen the compost industry in Iowa, the Iowa Composting Council (IACC) and Iowa Recycling Association (IRA) strongly encourage compost producers to participate in the US Composting Council's (USCC) Seal of Testing Assurance (STA) Program. This program helps to maintain the standard and consistency of compost as a commodity to market. As a producer, it provides a marketing advantage, and as a consumer, it ensures the compost being purchased and used meets industry standards. For further details, visit the USCC website.
The mission of the IACC is to maintain a standard of training and ethics among owners and operators in the compost industry to ensure that we have a positive reputation and that we are viewed as experts in composting. While the IACC provides training, the USCC provides a certification program that allows operators to demonstrate their expertise and produce a quality product.
