The City of Ames' Arnold O. Chantland Resource Recovery System has been recycling Story County's garbage since 1975 by processing the material received and producing an alternative fuel that can be used in their power plant to make electricity for the city, diverting 70-75% of the waste stream from landfilling. A non...-ferrous recovery system was added last year to improve metals recycling. Lorrie Hanson will provide an update to the plant's story.
