2009 IOWA RECYCLING AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED Des Moines, IA (October 18, 2009) Iowa Recycling Association is proud to announce the winners of the 2009 Iowa Recycling Awards. The award recipients represent excellence in recycling and reuse and are a vital part of Iowa's recycling community. The winners were presented awards at the Eleventh Annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Sullivan Brothers Conference Center, Waterloo. The awards luncheon is co-hosted by the Iowa Recycling Association and the Iowa Society of Solid Waste Operations to celebrate cutting-edge solid waste and recycling practices. "We are very pleased to present these awards which showcase the groups and individuals that exemplify the best of recycling in Iowa," said Jennifer Jordan, President of the Iowa Recycling Association.
The 2009 Iowa Recycling Award categories and winners are: Best School Recycling Program: Mediapolis Community School District (Mediapolis) Best Business Recycling Program: Polaris Industries (Spirit Lake) Recycling Project/Facility of the Year: Hy_Capacity, Inc. (Humboldt) Murray J. Fox Recycling Innovation Award: Heritage Environmental Services (Iowa City) Best Government Recycling Program: City of Des Moines (Des Moines) Recycler of the Year: Shelene Codner, Iowa Waste Exchange (Ankeny) IRA Volunteer of the Year: Bev Wagner, Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (Dubuque)
Founded in 1989, Iowa Recycling Association is a broad-based coalition of 400 individuals, institutions, business, industry, local governments and organizations. The Association is dedicated to a healthy environment and a healthy economy by promoting recycling and recycling related activities.
